Great base pay but it does not work out in the long run - Sales Representative Professional Sports Publications Employee Review

Pros

Starting off with the good things base pay is great not many sales jobs will give you as high of a base as PSP. Management will take the office out to sporting events and happy hours every once in a while which is a nice touch.

Cons

Management plays favorites all the time the reps that they like will get the good leads and good projects. In the interview process you told all leads are provided but come to find out not only do company provided lead sucks I.e business have been closed for a number of years or have already been call by other reps that month or they are all ready in the publication and that you have to spend time in the day creating your own leads. The current sales manager was a poorly performing sales rep that disagreed with upper management all the time only to be made sales manager when the previous manager got fired. Now the commission structure is quite unique. You’ll only get paid on new sales and not repeat sales, but they do require you to maintain the relationship and sell previous clients new ads while not getting any commission on those new sales

Pros

Working with PSP is unique because you have firsthand access to Major league sports material. It's cool to say I work in sports publishing. I like my coworkers and those in office with me. We have good camaraderie and keep the office culture lively.

Cons

I do not feel valued by this company. This winter we had three heavy snowstorms and when I asked if I the company would be closing for safety, my boss looked at me and laughed saying "the company doesn't care about that." Turns out many of my coworkers have had to drive through blizzards and awful conditions in order to come in multiple times. Recently the company decided to give us "summer Friday's", except in order to receive the benefit of leaving at 2pm on Friday, we had to come in a half hour earlier everyday all summer to "make sure we're not losing manpower". This doesn't make me feel like you value my time or want to make sure I have a healthy work/life balance. I'm expected to bend over backward and still preform at max capacity. I feel like the company would take an chance to screw over it's employees to cut costs and I don't appreciate working under that type of management style.
