Pros
I've never worked somewhere like ProfitWell before. All startups can claim they have passionate, hard working people, but it's different at ProfitWell, you feel it when you walk into the office, there's a buzz. That feeling is constant collaboration, giving feedback to anyone (yes, even our CEO) and knowing it's psychologically safe to do so, innovating on the big and little things, and to be frank, it's the sense that the people who work at ProfitWell genuinely like each other. When I first joined, I came in as the expert and set off to do my work - I had autonomy (no one was looking over my shoulder; I'm an adult and they trusted me to get my stuff done, and do it well). These things that I'm creating, I can quite literally see their impact around me - when folks you interview with say that "you can actually make an impact here," they mean it. And, this is also exciting because I'm actively helping my equity grow. I have a Manager and numerous mentors across the company that spend time developing me... constantly! They're not afraid to share the hard truths and feedback (and I actively want to hear it) because they know it's the only way I'll continue to grow and evolve. I value this so much, nearly beyond anything else I write here. I feel valued, invested in, like people care about me as a person and my career success. I've had bits and pieces of this before, but never the whole thing. It's motivating beyond belief. Process we didn't have in place before? Actively working on it, and I have a whole team of people behind me ready to give feedback, suggest ideas, and bring on the creative. It's hard, but we're getting it done, and I feel a tremendous amount of support from the people around me. Our Leadership is very transparent. We all know the financial health of the company (something I was curious about when I was interviewing because startups can be risky), they admit when we make mistakes and learn from them, and they celebrate wins publicly. This is important to me because we're all in this together, building the business. In chatting with a bunch of my colleagues, everyone says that the hardest part of COVID (from a work perspective) is not being together in the office. We have a really good group, and people miss being around each other. I've never felt so drawn to my colleagues before, but when you work with really smart, kind, caring people you find that you actively want to spend time with them. The other nice part here is that there isn't pressure to hang out with people after work - people kick a** at work, and then for the most part go home to their personal lives.
Cons
If you're someone who works better with a lot of process and a clear structure in which you work, startup life may be challenging. When I started looking for a new role, I knew I wanted to build something from scratch, not just work within already defined parameters. ProfitWell fits that really well. The company doesn't offer a 401(k) match, but instead gives you equity, which is actively valuable since we're 100% bootstrapped.
