Pros

Basically, working here is like owning my own IT company, pretty self-directed person, so that is a good fit. Biggest positive at Progent is the people. Salespeople and administrative/tech staff are polite and follow up. Progent has good SEO and marketing that provide a steady source of work calls with customers. Once sales connect me with customers, pretty much up to me to make the customer happy from a technical/IT business perspective. Management has invested in new systems to make paperwork side smoother and that works pretty well. We have new monitoring and management tools, but have more to learn on that still.

Cons

As long as I have been in IT (25+ years), the constant pressure of deadlines/outages/urgency is difficult to balance. That said, Progent encourages work from home/anywhere or at customer prem. I make my own decisions for work schedule/personal time trade-offs, like any consultant and therefore tend to prefer bigger projects to break/fix work. If you figure out the work/life balance in IT consulting... call me.

Pros

There are flexible work hours

Cons

They send out a skills list regularly to add your skills as a consultant. The problem is, the list was very limited for a long time. If your name was not on the list, your options for work became scarce. After a while they remove you completely. It becomes a chicken - egg scenario. You add your name to the updated skills list, but they don't add your name because you don't work.
