Pros

- Some talented and hardworking colleagues - Mission of patient care is meaningful (even if not well executed)

Cons

- Leadership is among the weakest I’ve seen across industries. - Decisions are made with little foresight, often driven by the loudest voices in the room rather than expertise. - Poor financial and operational outcomes directly tied to bad leadership choices - Departments work in silos, and even against each other, creating inefficiency and frustration. - Performance measurement and recognition are ineffective. - Major decisions are made without understanding impacts on employees or workflows. - Analytics department lacks strategy, planning, and proper vision - Leadership copies industry trends without considering Providence’s own operations or data to back up their decisions. - Constructive criticism is rarely welcomed or acted upon, while employees who “drink the Kool-Aid” tend to dominate meetings and are praised for alignment over substance.

Pros

(This is for Providence St Vincent Medical Center in PDX) - staffing ratios - break nurses - ONA union - coworkers on my unit are very helpful and kind (can’t speak for every unit though)

Cons

- upper management hates the nursing union - we are short on many supplies on weekend night shifts - crappy insurance - my unit’s manager is almost never there, they’re always on vacation or working remote. This makes our manager very out of touch with the unit’s needs
