Pros

Flexibility working from home, 403b contribution of 10%

Cons

You don’t feel like you’re part of a greater organization- their effort to retain a company culture going remote has been really bad. It took them 2 years to actually have online events where people could connect. They are at least trying now though. Difficult to move up. Raises are capped. Benefits have not pivoted since remote change- so employees lost some benefits going remote and they were not replaced by anything. PHI doesn’t pay during maternity leave which feels hypocritical for public health (with multi-million dollar programs).

Pros

Remote work with flexible hours as needed. Great to be a part of such mission driven work. Health insurance and retirement matching are incredible.

Cons

Experience can vary based on your program and PI/PD. There seems to be no accountability for PI/PD's and there's no way for employees to safely communicate concerns without fear of retribution or retaliation, leading to very toxic work environments where lower-level staff get the short end of the stick. Given that programs are grant-funded, PI/PD's can also cut/reduce staff's FTE and then delegate tasks to staff remaining without any salary/title change, leading to burnout, frustration and low team morale.
