Pros

Benefits are very good. Employer contributes a solid 10% to 403b no matter how much you put in. Very generous paid time off.

Cons

Depends on the department you are work for. Work is super boring. No growth opportunities. You can sit there the whole day doing nothing. With that being said you have not much to learn. Paid is also low. Overall, this is kind of the laid back job for those who are close to retirement and looking for stability. If you are knowledgeable and enthusiastic go find more challenging and better paid job.

Pros

Remote work with flexible hours as needed. Great to be a part of such mission driven work. Health insurance and retirement matching are incredible.

Cons

Experience can vary based on your program and PI/PD. There seems to be no accountability for PI/PD's and there's no way for employees to safely communicate concerns without fear of retribution or retaliation, leading to very toxic work environments where lower-level staff get the short end of the stick. Given that programs are grant-funded, PI/PD's can also cut/reduce staff's FTE and then delegate tasks to staff remaining without any salary/title change, leading to burnout, frustration and low team morale.
