Pros
Provides good pay and benefits. Some excellent experts work there.
Cons
I worked at a small program under PHI's fiscal sponsorship. Legally, all lobbying and policy actions of fiscally sponsored programs are attributed to PHI, so every move required approval from PHI’s VP-level leadership. PHI central was unresponsive and restrictive, which hindered my ability to do my job effectively. PHI hires executive leaders for the fiscally sponsored programs with a focus on impressive credentials (e.g., PhDs, accolades) rather than practical program management skills. Directors were highly paid, yet few contributed meaningfully to our work. Our program also spent countless hours navigating PHI’s overly bureaucratic budget system, which added confusion and wasted time.
