Pros

Great at gaslighting!!! You will receive awards and accolades but still get terminated without notice.

Cons

The recent stop-work order at the Public Health Institute (PHI) resulted in the abrupt termination of dedicated employees, yet the organization made little to no effort to advocate for its workforce during this challenging time. Despite PHI’s stated mission of supporting public health professionals, there was a noticeable lack of transparency and communication regarding the decision-making process. Employees were left without clear guidance or support, raising concerns about the organization’s commitment to those who have contributed to its mission. A stronger effort to fight for staff retention or transition assistance could have demonstrated true leadership and integrity in crisis management.

Pros

Remote work with flexible hours as needed. Great to be a part of such mission driven work. Health insurance and retirement matching are incredible.

Cons

Experience can vary based on your program and PI/PD. There seems to be no accountability for PI/PD's and there's no way for employees to safely communicate concerns without fear of retribution or retaliation, leading to very toxic work environments where lower-level staff get the short end of the stick. Given that programs are grant-funded, PI/PD's can also cut/reduce staff's FTE and then delegate tasks to staff remaining without any salary/title change, leading to burnout, frustration and low team morale.
