Pros

Intellectually stimulating and varied work, plus flexibility in the types of projects you work on. Excellent work-life balance. Good health benefits. Respected brand in academia (especially more qualitative social sciences) industry (especially government contracting), as well as government. Smart, mostly kind colleagues. Office itself is modern and vibrant

Cons

Low pay relative to outside (non-policy/research) options for folks with quantitative skills. Requires networking to get staffed on projects. Very few opportunities for upward mobility without additional schooling. No tuition reimbursement for said schooling.
