Pros

-Lots of autonomy as long as deadlines are met and your work quality is good -Lots of opportunities for junior employees to develop presentation and client interaction skills -Most of our projects require a small consultant team of 1 manager and 1 analyst which I find preferable to working on big teams -Our client contacts (mostly staff at public utilities/cities) are helpful, kind, and reasonable for the most part

Cons

-Vast majority of projects (water/wastewater rate studies) require lots of hours in Excel and begin to feel repetitive over time -Steep learning curve for new junior staff (a lot of learning on the fly and reverse-engineering others' work) -Rate-setting in California compared to other states is particularly tedious and litigious due to Proposition 218

Pros

Exe leadership is solid. Benefits and pay are great. Flexible PTO. Company retreats.

Cons

Individual practice leadership varies. I often feel that my immediate managers are struggling to fit into the company and are often too busy to provide me any support.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear that you valued our company culture and the people you worked alongside — our team is truly what makes our work meaningful. We also appreciate your feedback on both the nature of the work and compensation. We recognize that some project work can feel repetitive, and we’re always exploring ways to diversify assignments and expand development opportunities across teams. Because our projects focus on supporting the public sector, compensation may differ from private-sector roles. However, this work also comes with meaningful benefits: stronger job stability, mission-driven work, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact in the local communities we serve. We regularly review market data and project structures to ensure we continue offering competitive compensation, growth opportunities, and diverse project experiences wherever possible. Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback.
