Pros
The salary offered is top-notch and there are ample career opportunities for the career-minded. You can progress laterally and/or vertically within the company. Career opportunities are posted several times a week for all to explore (if desired). ResMed provides Medical/Dental benefits. ResMed offers an employee stock purchase program whereby employees can buy stock at a discounted price throughout the year. Stock is also distributed as a reward for outstanding achievements and/or work. The vacation offered is great and you get to enjoy an extra week off during the X-mas holidays as the office shuts down for that week. For my position, I started at 4 weeks vacation, so with the extra week at X-mas, I get to enjoy 5+ weeks/year. You also accrue 1 day/year of vacation for every year of service (There are limits, I'm sure, but I'm already +4 days now) ResMed offers 5% RRSP contribution matching (in Canada, that is) and a bonus program whereby you can earn 5-20% of your salary. The bonuses are paid out twice a year. The Canadian ResMed office location is great (in Halifax, NS). The office is situated immediately off of the 102 highway making the commute to the office a breeze. Especially, since I live 20 minutes outside the city. The company provides a gym membership subsidy to help its employees stay healthy. Any employee can take advantage of this offer. You can also obtain a discounted membership at the Canada Games Center as ResMed has a corporate deal with the CGC. ResMed provides an abundance of free snacks in its kitchens ranging from fruit to candy along with a wide array of coffees and teas. ResMed Halifax has an active social club that provides never ending social activities. Every month on the 3rd Friday on the 3rd floor at 3 o'clock, some event is held in the kitchen. The club usually provides some sort of catering for the employees. We've had Chinese, Lebanese, German, etc... catering to date. The human resources team is great. The orientation sessions provided to new employees are superb. Regular check ins with the employees ensure that employees are getting what they need to perform their function. HR also provides planned sessions for the Grade 9 "Take Your Kid To Work" so that kids get to see what we do and it removes the burden from the parents to entertain their kids all day. The culture at the Halifax location is a relatively mature one that supports work-life balance. However, it knows how to have fun at the workplace while getting good work done. Most of the employees here have families with kids. We all understand that there are soccer games and school recitals to attend and everyone is OK with that. We support a flexible work schedule, but most employees are here during the core hours of business. ResMed also puts on activities for the families that include an office X-mas kids party and other events like a family day at Hatfield Farms. I plan on staying with this company for the long haul. If you're lucky to join, I expect you will too.
Cons
The parking lot fills up quickly. If you're not here prior to 9am, you will need to park quite a distance from the office building (i.e. at the next office building). As more people are hired, the competition for parking is increasing and the winter months add to the dilemma. However, I have not had to park on the street to date. It's really not that bad. Depending on your role at the company and your willingness to travel, there could be quite a bit of travel involved (This could either be a pro or a con depending on your disposition). Most people do not need to travel, but if you're a senior level staff member, then you can expect to travel 2-6 times a year. The US corporate head office is located in San Diego and ResMed is an Australian company. ResMed has offices all over the world, but most travel is between Halifax and San Diego. This year, I've had to travel to San Diego twice and I also had to attend a conference in Toronto.
