Pros
Free health insurance, cheap benefits, optional life insurance, discounts on parts and services (10%, but there’s a 30% markup on parts when ordered through the dealership so really not a discount at all), occasional lunches bought (if they need to keep you there and not give you a break at all. Hope you like cold food. You won’t get a chance to eat it hot) and free lunch on Saturdays. All just wool over your eyes to hide the lies👇. But you won’t really see how bad it is until you’ve wasted at least 2 months there (or more if you’re more of an optimist like I was) You hope it’ll change. It likely never will the way they’re going.
Cons
Service Advisors (except for a few) like to not pay technicians for extra jobs added on to tickets so you waste a lot of time fighting for pay that should’ve been yours to begin with(more time you could be using to make money) and it’s an inconvenience for management to do their job and fix the hours paid to you. They try to be cheap with what hours they do give you (look up what a job pays. They’ll try to give you less). Sometimes advisors delete tickets entirely (essentially making you a slave). despite being one of the richest dealerships in Charleston, some technicians still have to share a computer and the IT department logs you out when you’ve been away too long so you’re hunting down the other guy instead of making money. There are a few thiefs (lock your box and put away all your tools every time you walk away if you don’t want something missing) and should you report something stolen, management will make no attempt to keep you anonymous when they ask the accused if they did so. Issues are responded to with “I’ll handle it.” meanwhile not being handled at all because “it’s not their problem” so why should they care? Right. Broken shop provided equipment necessary to do your job isn’t replaced until someone raises enough hell or it causes a major inconvenience to multiple people/ the entire shop or damages customer property. People who work hard and stand up for themselves when wronged instead of staying in line and “just doing what you’re told” are treated like outcasts and targeted for termination until they either are pressured and stressed out so much they fly off the handle and get fired because they can’t take the BS anymore or walk out because they don’t wanna end up going to jail over some stupid no balls pencil pusher. They basically expect you to sell your soul to the dealership and work for next to nothing. Where is Abe Lincoln when you need him? These people are slave drivers and con artists.
