My experience as a contractor was extremely disappointing. I was encouraged to ask questions, but when I did, I often felt talked down to rather than supported. If challenges came up on a project, the conversations felt more like interrogations than collaborative problem-solving. The team consists a few product managers that obtained their position through nepotism and inexperienced project managers managing other project managers more than their own responsibilities. The hierarchy is convoluted and training materials are available but only due to the lack of knowledge from the team and the material available is inconsistent. When I finally asked staffing agency for feedback after the contract ended abruptly. I was told Roche’s concerns included “large gaps in process knowledge,” “coaching was received, but improvement wasn’t observed,” “lack of accountability,” “lack of attention to urgent items,” “poor communication,” “poor attention to detail.” I was surprised to hear this because these SUBJECTIVE concerns had never been discussed with me. and I was not given a clear opportunity to address them before my assignment ended. I have been in this industry far longer than most of the CSM Team. My experience includes pharmaceutical, biotech, and diagnostic labs but yet I was labeled this. Complete bureaucracy, if you ask me. I received a morning call from my agency that Roche, ended my contract the day prior and not to login. There was no conversation with me beforehand, no opportunity to transition my work, and no chance to say goodbye to my team. After the time and effort I invested, I was left feeling completely disposable. That was my experience, and it’s one I hope future contractors are aware of when considering a role.
