Pros

I have been working at Ross for about 2 and half months now and I surprised myself in how much I enjoy it. Our new store manager is very organized and makes sure we all get our breaks when we are supposed to get them (you never knew when your break was with the old manager). He is very kind and came up to me and shook my hand when he walked into the store one day. Everyone is very personable and helpful. Time off is very flexible (this is both a pro and a con because there are so many employees available to cover shifts you don't get that many hours anyway unless you are full time). If you are going to school, Ross will work around your school schedule, the same goes for if you work 2 jobs. I used to work at Kmart and I can't help but compare. At Kmart they are always pushing you to sell what they called "smart plans" and their credit cards. It can be very uncomfortable at times. You won't find any of that at Ross. Your job is to just provide friendly customer service and maintain a clean store.

Cons

Not too many downsides... Compensation isn't the best. Minimum wage. But really... its retail so retail typically only pays minimum wage anyway. The customers treat the store like its their bedroom and just throw clothes all over the place and leave it for the employees to pick up. Few hours for part time employees. At times, there is very little recognition for a job well done.

Pros

All of my coworkers were wonderful. No high school drama. Boss was flexible and understanding, although he always liked it if you said you could work more hours. The employee discount is pretty awesome. The work wasn't bad and rude customers were rare.

Cons

There was pressure to come in even when you were sick. Pay wasn't the greatest; it usually stayed ahead of minimum wage, but by no means kept up with inflation. Visits from corporate often meant a new change in procedures that had been working and demands that were somewhat unreasonable given the constraints of the layout or number of employees available.
