Pros

Store discount, health insurance. It's actually a good place to be an assistant buyer.

Cons

Do not be an administrative assistant for this company unless you want to work 20 years as an admin without ever being promoted. The only way for an admin to be promoted is if their boss gets promoted, so your own merit is never considered. If your boss is ever promoted, you get to become their executive assistant, which ultimately leads to generating an even higher amount of reports and larger work load than you already have. They make it almost impossible to transfer to merchandising or buying, even though you do the same work as level 2 assistant buyers. That also does not stop them from giving you a review every 6 months, as if constant criticism mixed with zero advancement opportunities would make you want to stay. Imagine getting a review as an administrative assistant knowing that it would never lead to a promotion of any kind, while merchants and buyers get promoted regularly and receive the compensation to match. You have to process the paperwork for these promotions while being told you cannot transfer to other positions that could lead to a true career. No thanks.

Pros

All of my coworkers were wonderful. No high school drama. Boss was flexible and understanding, although he always liked it if you said you could work more hours. The employee discount is pretty awesome. The work wasn't bad and rude customers were rare.

Cons

There was pressure to come in even when you were sick. Pay wasn't the greatest; it usually stayed ahead of minimum wage, but by no means kept up with inflation. Visits from corporate often meant a new change in procedures that had been working and demands that were somewhat unreasonable given the constraints of the layout or number of employees available.

Pros

Even though this is with my store specifically I got really lucky with my coworkers. Every season change there is 40% off for about a week other than that is 20%. They also have scholarship opportunities.

Cons

It’s a really physical job, sometimes it’s so busy that you can’t even take a break especially during Christmas season, you WILL debate working there during that time. The store hours are horrible and since most of the time were understaffed we won’t leave until almost midnight just cleaning up.
