Pros

Small Merchandise Discounts are available for employees and Verizon Wireless service discounts

Cons

I was recruited by a District Sales Manager to be a Store Manager for the company, I was told of the unbelievably low annual salary for a store manager of about $25,000 but promised that was before any commission was added. Upon being hired I was told that I would be in training for 3 weeks, 2 weeks of wireless representative training and after those 2 weeks I would complete 1 week of "on the job training" for the store manager role. My 2 weeks of wireless specialist training consisted literally of me doing about 30 minutes of computer training through animated modules and then trying to ask any questions about the position I may have had to the current store manager, who was leaving in 3 days. After my training period was over the location had no store manager and literally no employees other than myself and 1 other employee (who had been there 2 months) so we were both being forced to work open-close several times a week, my last week I had to work open-close for 3 days in a row while the other employee attended a training. The District Manager had finally hired 2 wireless specialists for the location and was present for 1 day of their training and literally left me to handle the remainder of the 2 weeks of their training period. My 3 open-close shifts I was unable to even clock out to take a break because they were not trained to handle anything at all at that point.  My training literally consisted of me teaching myself the position, studying my notes and using them while working, processing transactions, and having to call my fellow managers or employees in other locations to process sales because I had 0 hands on training with anyone.  The other employee working with me had her cash drawer come up short at least 4 times that I am aware of, once over $20. I notified the District Manager and Accounts Payable each time. I ended up being so frustrated with the fact that upper management doesn't even care about the store, employees or customers that it was definitely not a place to work. There were numerous issues with the store inventory and banking records from previous management and lack of follow up through the district manager as well, but I will save that from an embarrassing online review.

Pros

It's relatively easy to learn the software involved, and the company mascot is cute. The customers are like any industry, hit or miss- but I enjoyed helping them with their phone troubles and understanding the technology we all rely on now.

Cons

Literally everything else. There's no clear pay scale or raise structure, and HR is not forthcoming with this information, either. The commission structure makes little to no sense, changing mid-month in a point based system, random spiffs for anywhere from a day or two to a few months. It's so confusing that there's regular trainings and quizzes on how the structure works to make sure employees come even close to understanding it. The median monthly earnings in commission are only earned by 38% of employees, not the average or majority. The training is almost useless, and focuses on convincing you you can make good money rather than teaching you anything. They push ethics and "honest sales" in preaching, but not in practice; and punish you for "underperforming" if you don't slam account with extras, lie to customers, or commit blatant fraud. They actively discourage you from helping in any capacity if it doesn't create a sale of some kind, and push extra fees onto customers for something as simple as paying your bill in person. Regional supervision isn't required to follow the same standards as company policies, and there is very little hierarchy accountability. They expect you to answer a call at a drop of a hat even off the clock, but will actively ignore you or hang up if you need something when they're off the clock, even salaried. On top of that, upper management and the C-Suite is rife with nepotism, and even Verizon thinks they pay their employees too little. Not a great look.
