Pros
I worked with many hardworking frontline associates who genuinely cared about serving the customer. The company offers opportunities to gain experience in complex logistics operations, particularly in startup environments.
Cons
My experience was at a startup operation, so other Ryder locations may differ.
During recruitment, the role was described as a senior leadership position focused on inventory accuracy, outbound execution, OS&D, process improvement, and developing leaders. Once I started, the role became primarily tactical execution centered on outbound load closure and daily firefighting.
The startup had changing priorities, overlapping leadership direction, and an unclear decision making structure. Responsibilities shifted frequently, making it difficult to understand who owned decisions or how success would ultimately be measured.
The schedule was also much different than I expected. Extended days became common almost immediately, including six and seven day workweeks. I understand startups require flexibility, but I did not see a clear plan for transitioning to a sustainable operating model.
If you are interviewing for a leadership role at a startup account, ask detailed questions about the actual day to day responsibilities, authority to implement improvements, schedule expectations, and how performance will be evaluated during the first 90 days.
