Pros

Average pay, unionized, opportunities for career advancement.

Cons

Management fosters a toxic culture, and does not do what is necessary to make sure employees can do their jobs safely and effectively. When I was there there were 5 different types of shopping carts, all of which had to be collected separately. So much time was occupied by unlocking the door to the bathroom for costumers, which their was only one key kept up front. Poor communication between pretty much everybody. Managers would let their personal problems effect the whole store. Store is disgusting and either management is too incompetent to the right supplies to clean it, or senior management won't provide assistance (i suspect the former). Area has a homelessness problem and staff have to clean up trash cans people went through, and call police pretty frequently.

Pros

Nothing at all, only work at Safeway if you're about to be literally homeless

Cons

Genuinely hellish work environment. Management is lazy and absent, customers are the most disrespectful and clueless I have ever encountered. Complete unrealistic labor allocation and expectations. As a PIC, I have to run 9 SCO robots, unlock cases for customers, perform transactions at Customer Service, answer external phone calls, and move freight. Customers rightly get frustrated at the complete lack of care by corporate, and take it out on employees. Management in the morning all skip out on the evening management early every single day, a luxury the closing staff are not allowed.
