Pros

You get paid on a weekly basis.

Cons

Since they are with a union, you are effectively getting paid minimum wage, sometimes less, depending on how many hours you work that week. Union dues are $30 a week, and you get paid weekly. The produce department is constantly under-staffed due to the company not seeing it as a department that Needs a lot of staff. So all of your coworkers are stretched thin and breaking their bodies to get things done. Do your stretches and eat enough calories, you WILL break your body with this job if you're not careful. Schedules are also variable, some weeks you're workign 30+ hours, some weeks you get 10 hours, and management (store management, as they don't let the produce department manager write their own schedule) wil say "well that's just how it is". I had to fight constantly for an ounce of predictability, and even then it only lasted maybe a month.

Pros

Nothing at all, only work at Safeway if you're about to be literally homeless

Cons

Genuinely hellish work environment. Management is lazy and absent, customers are the most disrespectful and clueless I have ever encountered. Complete unrealistic labor allocation and expectations. As a PIC, I have to run 9 SCO robots, unlock cases for customers, perform transactions at Customer Service, answer external phone calls, and move freight. Customers rightly get frustrated at the complete lack of care by corporate, and take it out on employees. Management in the morning all skip out on the evening management early every single day, a luxury the closing staff are not allowed.
