Pros

If you like interacting with lots of different people, enjoy small talk, and doing easy work, being a cashier is a great job for you. The managers were nice and they do good job training. Also, the interview process is very easy and they are usually hiring.

Cons

As a new hire, you are at the bottom of the pecking order. The hours seem to be very clumped together or very few and far between (depending on the times employees hired before you want to work). I often got called in because someone didn't show up, so it was difficult to plan around. Also, it can get very boring as a cashier (i.e. if there aren't many people, they don't allow you to bag for another cashier). It would be great if there were other tasks we could perform.

Pros

Nothing at all, only work at Safeway if you're about to be literally homeless

Cons

Genuinely hellish work environment. Management is lazy and absent, customers are the most disrespectful and clueless I have ever encountered. Complete unrealistic labor allocation and expectations. As a PIC, I have to run 9 SCO robots, unlock cases for customers, perform transactions at Customer Service, answer external phone calls, and move freight. Customers rightly get frustrated at the complete lack of care by corporate, and take it out on employees. Management in the morning all skip out on the evening management early every single day, a luxury the closing staff are not allowed.
