Pros

Employees can be well-meaning and will frequently go the extra mile when needed. Unfortunately, they're also undertrained and considered expendable by management, leading to an oppressively toxic culture.

Cons

Want to learn how to profit in business for decades without any ethics? Follow Schlesinger's model: 1. Develop only an ad hoc infrastructure, investing neither time, support or incentive for your employees. 2. Encourage falsification of results to appease client satisfaction. 3. Downsize necessary operations even at the sacrifice of talent. 4. Encourage management to insult and belittle employees so they feel emotionally attached to a job that pays only slightly more than minimum wage in some cases. 5. Silence criticism, requesting managers to solicit positive feedback and reviews at the threat of terminating an employee (yes, I have been asked to do this.) 6. Fail to address hostility at all employee levels, pretending your labor pool is one big happy family. 7. Pretend that discrimination lawsuits "actually never happened." 8. Don't bother with employee background checks in spite of access to personal information. 9. Encourage enmity among regional offices for your own personal amusement. 10. Repeat monthly over a ten year cycle and... Cha-ching!

Pros

You're able to work remote.

Cons

The company is spiraling out of control. There’s a lack of leadership, and efforts to sell to private equity are not going well. Instead of focusing on creating value internally, they are looking externally. The company is heavily reliant on a large number of VP-level staff, with 60% or more of the staff at that level. The rest of the staff is severely underpaid.
