Pros
$30+/hr after 6-18 months, depending on experience. OT after 45 hours. Weekends off. 5 days of PTO a year. Set start time M-F, & will let you know the day before if they need you to come in early. Won't force you to do an extra trip if you're too tired at the end of your shift. All automatic fleet.
Cons
Slip seats for city drivers. You have to show up early to your shift in order to find a decent truck before other drivers show up, so you hopefully won't get stuck in an old POS. A good 1/3 of the trucks need to be replaced because they have 600-800K miles on them. The older trucks have the crappy plastic air lines that break easily. Half of the dollies are the old style that have this little piece of plastic that has to fall down in order to block the handle from popping out, so you have to practically fight other drivers over getting the decent newer ones; That way you don't have to worry about dropping your rear pup trailer if you forget to make sure that piece of plastic is in place. Why do we still have these?!?!?! 5 days of Vacation a year, but you don't get 10 days a year until you've been there for EIGHT YEARS, and 15 days a year after SEVENTEEN YEARS. Ridiculous. I have a relative that's a nurse, making about as much as me, but gets 2 weeks vacation every 6 months after just being hired. You can't get a decent shift unless you've been with the company for 20 years. So many of the drivers have stayed around for so long & won't retire. The new Saia Connect website is so frustrating to use. The way it's laid out is inefficient & needs to be redesigned into an actual app. Like, why are the daily use truck pages for linehaul & equipment inspection found after you sign in, click on Saia Connect, go to operations located 3/4 down the page (after waiting for the page to finally load), then scroll 1/3 the way down the next page to get to them? So annoying! Those are two of the most highly used functions on the website, but they're not easily accessible after signing in.
