Pros

Nice camaraderie amongst employees, mostly everyone is happy to be there. A lot of upper management are dedicated to the Jesuit theme by serving the community at large and doing there best to help the students throughout their academic career. Good little niches of eateries. A quiet campus when students are gone. Get paid university days off during extended holiday times for most employees. Free undergraduate tuition. 2 free courses per semester for graduate level although you do pay 50% tax fee to IRS for cost of Grad level. Beautiful campus grounds if you like eating your lunch outside.

Cons

Pay is low due to conservative spending by divisions and the university as a whole. Although this may have helped in preventing unwanted layoffs. Health benefits are not the best although they're not the worst. And in order to get health benefits payments down to a reasonably affordable rate, you have to enroll in Vitality, a program where they track your health through a website. You have to get a brief checkup either thru SLU, Walgreens clinic, or your doctor to get the discount. No paid maternity leave, unless you use your hours earned from vacation and sick time. And you're required to use all this time for maternity leave.

Pros

The university offers a lot of opportunities that make the student experience very memorable, such as career treks, mock interviews, career fairs, and different engagement events and workshops.

Cons

Overall, the employee experience was challenging. The institution faced significant financial difficulties during my tenure, including recurring layoffs and no salary increases over a two-year period, which contributed to ongoing uncertainty and low morale. Leadership and communication were problematic particularly within my team. High turnover, limited transparency around staffing and role changes, workplace gossip, and unprofessional interpersonal dynamics. When a team loses more than 50% of its staff within a two-year span, it suggests deeper cultural and management issues that warrant attention. The physical work environment also presented challenges. Persistent heating and cooling problems resulted in office temperatures fluctuating dramatically from uncomfortably hot to excessively cold temperatures with little consistency from day to day. Lastly, compensation was a frequent concern among employees. Many staff members worked second jobs or actively sought opportunities elsewhere due to salaries that were not competitive with the market.
