Bad company, bad leadership - Anonymous employee Samanage Employee Review

Pros

Some departments (sales and related teams) have a lot of freedom, are pretty well managed and the employees in those areas seem to enjoy working at Samanage and have less turnover. Lots of good and healthy snacks / drinks are free and always available. There is a bar with 3 alternating craft beer taps that is open at 5 every day (can be a pretty big con for those who don’t have the self-control to handle it or who just don’t enjoy the unprofessional, heavy drinking culture)

Cons

The CEO is far beyond just a micro manager -- he believes he knows how everything at the company should be done and is actively stopping the company’s progress as he refuses to delegate or give any real ownership to the rest of the executive team. As a result, the business gets jerked around based on his mood. The CEO is also quick to use intimidation with his staff and insult their work if it’s not exactly what he thinks should be done. Those who are “in” with the CEO make excuses for inexcusable behavior which makes the problem even worse, because those who feel mistreated then also feel like they can’t trust their co-workers. It’s an extremely political environment. Those close to the CEO do well and get promoted, others don’t. There are a couple of good leaders in high places but, for the most part, don’t expect to have a boss who cares about you or is willing to advocate for you. In general I would stay away from the enterprise side of the business -- pressures are very high there. Samanage has gotten a lot of valid feedback through Glassdoor reviews over the past year but doesn’t seem to care, because none of the concerns have been addressed. Samanage has even pushed employees to write positive reviews on here and to vote the more positive Glassdoor reviews as “Helpful” in order to bury the many, many negative reviews.

Thank you for the valuable feedback regarding your experience with Samanage. We appreciate the time you took to write about your time with the company. The feedback is critical as we continue striving to be a great place to work. We are not trying to diminish negative reviews on Glassdoor, in fact we have taken employee and Glassdoor feedback and made several changes, such as: a company 401(k) match, tuition reimbursement, a work-from-home policy, and fitness reimbursement. We also implemented quarterly town hall meetings so that employees can get a better understanding from our CEO and other executives about important initiatives and goals; company direction; and the 'why' around decision making. We do want to hear where we can continue to improve and use that information to understand both positive and negative experiences our employees have. We are proud of our progress to date and excited about what the future holds. At Samanage, we win as a team and lose as a team. Thank you again for the feedback and please don't hesitate to reach back out to us if there is anything else that you'd like to discuss about your experience at Samanage.
