Pros

Consistency: unfriendliness, miles-long aisles of cubicles” walls, hierarchy to the extent “leadership” stays in their offices— they NEVER come out and say hi, ask what you’re working on, etc.. If you like quiet, you’re in luck. You can hear a pin drop. It’s literally the sound of misery, punctuated only by the sound of the obnoxiously loud, white male intern who thinks he’s the next coming of Christ.

Cons

Don’t come here if you’re a woman. This place is stuffed with dudes with 12 years of experience who have “principal” in their title. They obviously can never go anywhere else, so the entitlement and bro culture feeds on itself. Most of these sad dudes have been there most of their career and never got the memo that it’s 2023. It’s horrible. Like, beyond what you could possibly imagine.

Sargent & Lundy Response

Thank you for being a member of our team and contributing to Sargent & Lundy’s success. We value all former and current employees’ opinions, and yours are no exception. However, we’re disappointed that this is not an accurate reflection of S&L’s culture or work environment. We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and reaffirm our strong commitment to being an affirmative action and equal employment opportunity employer. While the A/E/C industry as a whole continues to improve its minority representation, Sargent & Lundy has continuously and proactively sought ways to expand its outreach in female and minority placement and internal mobility. It’s also important to note that we’re an active participant in internal AND external reviews of pay equity, internal equity, and DE&I gaps. At a minimum, each year we engage external expertise to review and assess our hiring, promotion, termination, and pay equity, including race and gender, with statistical analyses. We value this review and analyses to help us adjust accordingly. We also offer a number of benefits and programs that support and encourage the women in our workforce, including Sargent & Lundy’s Women’s Professional Network. We encourage all employees to take an active role in their career and participate in the programs and benefits we offer for an enriched experience. While our offices do tend to be quiet on Mondays and Fridays, this is the result of the majority of our office staff following a flexible schedule where they are present in the office Tuesday-Thursday but can work remotely Monday and Friday. Our workspace is configured to optimize knowledge sharing collaboration with project teams and peers. Leadership staff sit in the center of our office floors for accessibility and visibility to staff, with an open-door policy. Our leadership takes an active role engaging with staff by being involved in project work/assignments, participating in communities of practice and employee resource groups, and conducting semi-annual business group town hall meetings. They also organize voluntary opportunities for staff to connect with one another, business group leadership, and company leadership. We encourage you to leverage that open-door policy and be proactive in initiating conversation with business leaders around you.

Pros

Decent pay and interesting projects that allow for good professional development.

Cons

Absolutely horrendous work-life balance. I have been at the company for almost 20 years and their lack of support and flexibility for parents is incredibly disappointing. Going to the office requirements are unrealistic with little kids, and some of the newly minted managers are on a power trip, micromanaging high performers and quoting pto policies if you need to run 30min errands midday.
