Great brands, but career growth, benefits and retention lag the industry - Marketing Manager Sazerac Employee Review

Pros

*Exposure to a 550 brand plus spirits portfolio and the complexities of a regulated industry. * Smart, passionate colleagues—especially in brand and sales—who share tribal knowledge freely. * Genuine autonomy to build processes from scratch and drive high-visibility projects. * Certain sales/brand roles do receive a bonus, but eligibility is very narrow across the marketing/sales org and amounts vary. * Fast-paced environment means plenty of on-the-job learning for self-starters.

Cons

* Career pathing is virtually nonexistent outside a few favored functions; promotions are opaque and often go to recent external hires (many from Procter and Gamble). * Annual “merit” raise is effectively capped at ~3 % and eligibility hinges on completing 12 self-logged “journal” entries—a process that feels like box-checking rather than performance-based. * Base salaries are middling for the market and, without meaningful bonuses, total compensation lags peers. * Only a small fraction of roles qualify for the Sazerac Compensation Plan bonus—most employees receive no merit based variable pay beyond the 3% yearly bump. * PTO starts at 3 weeks (vacation + sick combined)—already low for seasoned hires—and accrues slowly, while 60+ hour weeks are common, fueling burnout. * Turnover is chronically high; teams are constantly back-filling, so institutional knowledge disappears and workloads spike for those who stay.

Pros

I really enjoy the brands and the industry as a whole. I take a lot of pride in working hard, solving problems for customers, and closing sales. Sazerac brings a lot to the table too—competitive pricing, a strong product lineup, and every now and then we even get some pretty cool POS to work with.

Cons

Our distributor can’t seem to carry enough of our stuff, so we’re constantly out of stock on anything new or anything people actually want. It’s a mess. Be ready to grind 40 hours a week in accounts, then somehow cram in trainings, reports, posts, pre-planning, organizing POS…basically all the other crap on your “free time.” And don’t forget—you better account for every singe minute of your day. Got a gap between calls because you had to a crap or grab food? Yeah, you might want to log that too, because they’re gonna want to know exactly what you were doing with their time.
