Pros
Book fairs are a fun business. Exposure to books, authors and events keep the hum-drum out of working here.
Cons
The GMs are there because they know how to read a P&L. If they can make their region money, they are golden. They are NOT there because they have management skill of any kind. Threat management is the norm. If they want you gone, they will resort to anything - talking behind your back, giggling as you walk by the "in crowd" or trying to intimidate you. Dishonesty was rampant, and extra-marital affairs with the call center girls was constant. Managers get 100+ emails a day and attend 6 conference calls per week, to the point where actually managing and developing your people was de-prioritized and impossible. But that's OK, because who cares about them? It's the brillance of the managers that really make the company run, right?
