Pros

Being a part of a new car company is exciting in its own right. Lots of meaningful work to do, problems to solve, and processes to develop! I am a believer in the product. Got to work with a lot of great cross-functional teams.

Cons

Never have I been so disrespected by my own management (and I have worked a lot of places - including another startup car company). No open mind for innovation / new ideas. There isn't much direction (it is a "startup" after all) but when you try to go above and beyond management doesn't care and will tell you "well thats not your job" without providing more information on what the job is. I was even insulted one time where I was told our intern could do what I was doing (I was making projects for myself at the beginning because the lack of work) I came from a technical background for the commodity I worked on but middle management would never take my thoughts and ideas seriously over my parts. I was consistently gaslighted at work about my credibility and the above-and-beyond things I was working on and how they were deemed not necessary - however the topics I was told to focus on should've been "priority 2" work. Middle management would even talk bad about people on the team with them literally right behind their backs. I was told multiple times "we are all replaceable". Overall this created a horrible team dynamic and lead to my departure.

Pros

- Collaborations with outside joint ventures are helpful and allow for more networking opportunities - Pay and Benefits is comparable to other OEMs, for reference as a senior engineer it was roughly 125k, 20 days accrued with carry over to new year, and most holidays off (no good friday or easter monday)

Cons

- CEO has consistently downplayed/mocked issues brought up by engineering on the overall processes and blockades. Clearly showing favoritism towards the production and design sections of the company. Direct examples of this can be seen when looking at social media posts by Scout that often highlight only the production and design aspects. For example there is no training program (outside of required legal training) or career development opportunities geared towards engineering teams. - Leadership within R&D departments is often disjointed and incapable of delivering the same message across the board largely due to lack of CTO presence in the office (working remotely), VPs combating to act in their own interests and to be acting head of CTO in the office, and severe issues of sticking to a decision. - Processes/tools are frequently changed across all departments causing unnecessary roadblocks and discussions. - The Charlotte move was poorly communicated, lacked any additional benefits, and blocked promotional opportunities if you chose to stay in MI Overall for an engineering professional, I do not recommend this company as your growth will be severely limited. Within automotive please direct your attention to a different start up or OEM.
