Pros

Great experienced co-workers that do a great job considering the poor working conditions!

Cons

Out dated systems, equipment that doesn't work, no lunch break (we must fend for ourselves even though we do not get paid), unfair and unreasonable expectations placed on their nursing staff! Management (CNO) is incompetent. Management does not listen to its employees and employees concerns. Employees are degraded by a "childish point system" when management doesn't know if they are giving "points" for things an employee has done good for the company as coming in late to help out when called in after the start of shift or stayed late to help with an admission, code blue, or because the employee was given too many patients that day and was unable to complete their work or for other legitimate reasons! Managers, HR, Quality, CEO, Chief Nursing Officer has changed multiple times over the last year (each of these positions have been changed 2-4 times in the last year) and the current management "pointing employees" have no idea about specific reasons for employees not being on time, being absent, or going home late and don't know if they are legitimate reasons or not, this manager has only been working in this facility for less than six months but is giving points to employees on things before she even worked there! If you come in to help it is YOUR responsibility to let manangrment know months later that you came in to help the unit or you stayed late to help the unit and that is why you stayed late. Employees are even being "pointed" for being called off their shift. We are told it is the employees responsibility to make sure they keep track of all of these situations, even after the fact!!!! So we are now being told we are bad employees for not keeping records of things we didn't know we were upside to keep records of :( Wonder why they can't keep employees!!!!

Pros

The pay is better than most places- but for a reason. Rehab team fabulous.

Cons

Greedy for-profit system. Benefits are terrible. Unsafe patient assignments. This patient population is critically ill, unstable, and often come with infections, pressure injuries and other conditions they acquired at the sending hospital. Most packed ICUs send patients here when they aren’t progressing fast enough or about to die. You often have 5 of these patients at a time on ventilators, critical drips, complex wound treatments, etc. Due to high staff turnover you are often working with a staff who was rushed through orientation and hired with no acute care experience. Their clinical liaisons often withhold or fail to assess for pertinent information prior to them arriving and they often make promises to the families and patients that are untrue (they get paid bonuses to bring in patients- regardless of their outcomes). If you become a charge nurse expect to have a full patient assignment while rounding with providers, running codes, and doing admissions. Don’t expect support from your local leadership team as their expectations from the regional team are too high and they are also overburdened with responsibilities.
