Cons
I came from outside of the healthcare industry so I am not sure if this is common in all healthcare organizations. I work on the administration side, not clinical, so I am 8:30-5:00 M-F. We do not get "paid" holidays. Sentara adds extra ours to our earned leave and we have to take leave for any holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and if you want to take a Federal holiday. I don't mind not having the Federal holidays but it's very difficult for me to adjust to having to take leave for the "big" holidays. I was not told about this before I was hired. I am also non-exempt and have to clock in and out which is an adjustment.
