Pros

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Martha Jefferson Hospital, hence the 2 star ratings since they're listed together with Sentara Home Care. The hospital is a tremendous asset to the Cville community & provides quality care. Nurses are well treated there & the pay is competitive for our area.

Cons

The Cville Home Care office is unable to maintain a safe staffing level due to terrible management & incompetent office staff who are allowed- or even encouraged- to BULLY the field nurses. Patient care & safety is not a concern, and if you bring issues to the attention of these 2 managers you will be retaliated against. In over 20 years of nursing (most of that in critical care areas btw) I have never feared for my license as I did while (briefly) employed here. Patients may or may not receive the services that you've signed them up for, they will likely not receive the supplies they're ordered, and you will be asked to do things that are unethical. Do yourself a favor & stay away entirely.

Pros

The team I was on was small but it had good people. My direct manager and her boss were great, but everyone above them were horribly disorganized and incompetent. More on that under cons. Pay was fine, slightly above the average. But raises were inconsistent. The ability to work from home was great. It was rare to be asked to work overtime, so work life balance was good.

Cons

Disorganized upper management who thought they knew better than the folks working in the weeds every day. There were multiple times that they would implement a change that my team would strongly recommend against, but it was shoehorned in anyway. Months later they would come back and say “that was actually a bad idea” and we would have to fix their mistakes, despite warning them against it in the beginning. How well you get trained also depends on your department. My team worked with other teams at Sentara that were often attempting to do things that could have put the company in legal jeopardy, but they were never told not to do it.
