Pros

Seven Lakes is a great place to learn and get your hands dirty. It is 'small' company and people who are enthusiastic will absorb different aspects of a business very quick. Working with peers who share the same levels of enthusiasm and experience brought a good working dynamic for the duration I was there. There used to be some of the smartest people I have worked with there and it was a good environment at the lower levels for collaboration and knowledge sharing. I had a great mentor during my tenure and was lucky to have that opportunity.

Cons

While it is great to get your hands dirty on various aspects, it does not foster growth / career enablement. Role definitions and responsibilities do not exist. Given the nature of the business, it is a question of delivery and the need of the hour is to pull up your socks and do it all. You can do this for a little while, but certainly cannot make a career out of it. As a natural extension, personal development and career planning are missing. Another major issue is for a company this small, there were communication black holes. For a 50 person company, there is no excuse for not being able to communicate. Adding to it, a company this small should not have 'elitist' or 'privileged' groups who see more opportunity. When the going is good, everything is great. But most of the practices were unsustainable. A major con in my book was the lack of technology leadership. By being pushed under the gun to deliver, there were textbook examples of poor technology practices.

Pros

This was a great company which founded on solid work technical work culture that I had not seen in a long time. People worked there because they liked the challenge. We were overworked but never complained because that is the passion we joined the company for.

Cons

Well where to start. The company outsourced all technology folks to India for obvious reason, high skill with less pay. Hmm, have you seen the people who are left working the company now in the US. Well lets put it this way, they are there because no one else will hire them anywhere else. And the new people who have joined there, well the less we say about them, the better it is. Especially the business facing folks. They are bunch of useless junk who will not get employed anywhere, hence they are just hanging on by sucking up. All the technology guys who were let go, has already found jobs and moved on. Only these useless abomination called business folks who can barely write a decent email to their clients are left back.
