Pros

Decent benefits. The idea of the CMST program is great but execution is quite poor. Vacation policy is decent. There is room for growth if you're in with the right channels. Work life balance is all right if executives staff projects properly.

Cons

Higher level management takes advantage of employees with less experience. Favoritism is clearly shown amongst executives/directors. This leads to losing good talent and keeping underqualified employees. Compensation is low. "Flex" program does not actually work - people accept an offer from Shawmut under this condition and end up being required to stick to stringent office hours & location. Staffing on the project management side is disorganized - this ends up with some employees being overworked & underpaid, and some having excess downtime (which prevents learning and growing). High turnover - leads to unhappy clients who need to deal with staff being constantly replaced with no advance notice.

Pros

Working at Shawmut was a valuable experience that provided exposure to complex, high-profile construction projects and a strong commitment to safety and quality. The company employs talented professionals who are passionate about delivering exceptional work, and there are many opportunities to learn from experienced leaders across different disciplines. The culture is fast-paced and performance-driven, which can be rewarding for those who thrive in challenging environments. Employees are often given significant responsibility and opportunities to contribute to major projects. The company’s emphasis on safety, innovation, and client satisfaction is evident throughout its operations. Overall, Shawmut is a strong organization for construction professionals looking to gain experience on complex projects, develop their careers, and work alongside knowledgeable industry leaders. The experience can be highly rewarding for individuals who enjoy a dynamic and demanding construction environment.

Cons

One area for improvement is work-life balance. Project demands and deadlines can sometimes result in long hours and increased workloads, particularly during critical phases of construction. Communication and consistency between regions, departments, and project teams can also vary, which may lead to differing employee experiences depending on the project or office.
