Pros
The school I worked at used to be a great place to work. We were like a big supportive family. I was able to start as a bachelor's level educational assistant, and eventually became a teacher. I thank them for that opportunity. We had an amazing resource team that were experts on descelation and were actually supportive. Then a bunch of people left and everything changed.
Cons
Teachers are not respected, and even the best of teachers can be discarded no problem yet they desperately need teachers. An employee set me up, and caused me to get upset. I ended up getting terminated for this, but first they acted like they were going to do an investigation. They sided with the support staff rather than the professional, and never even told me why I was fired. They also caused me to not get unemployment. I have documented disabilities much like the population of kids I worked with, but Sheppard Pratt has no empathy. They are just out to make money not treat the children. I wanted to start incorporating social optional learning, but that got shut down which floored me because I thought I was working for Baltimore's go to.for mental health. There were kids that should have been transitioned back to public school, but they won't because they will loose money. The lower school brings kids to high school who can hardly read and write. I hope MSDE investigates this. I worked my butt off for years being one of the best teachers and not I'm just nothing.
