Pros

Good pto, depending on the department good management (behavior and rehab are great), schedule flexibility (depending on department and management). Great interdisciplinary teams on each unit. Working with different populations and mental health diagnosis. Good insurance. Good experience for resume. Wonderful and supportive behavior team.

Cons

Low pay, extremely understaffed causing unsafe patient to staff ratios. Lack of accountability for select staff from upper management and unit managers. If injured on the job you have to use your PTO and then workers comp only pays 2/3 of your regular pay rate. Patients can be highly aggressive at times.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at Sheppard Pratt. We're glad to hear you valued the PTO, interdisciplinary teamwork, and support of the behavior team. Working in behavioral health presents unique challenges. We have strict protocols in place to guide our responses, and all staff undergo continuous training to handle patient behaviors with professionalism and compassion. When workers compensation is necessary, Sheppard Pratt follows Maryland state law to determine how payments are structured. Under the law, the first three days are considered a waiting period and are covered using leave accruals. After that, payments are provided as mandated by state law.

Pros

Good job starting out if interested in the mental health field

Cons

Current supervisor at the Elkridge location enables questionable ethical practices among social workers, such as deleting some parts of an discharge summary as to avoid compromising the hospital. she also is too focused on planning her future vacations instead of managing the constant bullying from certain colleagues and overall lack of support as an supervise. Only opportunities for growth is to supervise interns or do some of the supervisor’s tasks when she’s working at the center of eating disorders in towson. Also, some units are actually breaking OHCQ by allowing patients in the nurses station and barely doing groups. Current supervisor is clearly burnt out and devoid of empathy because the money from being manager of two different locations is worth it if it means there’s a lack of investment towards her supervises. As a result, supervision is poor because there’s no manager to refer to if there are any questions or issues in person.
