Pros
Amazing people to work with even outside your discipline Collective goal to strive for the best for patients and care a lot about patients Social Work/Care Management team greatly supportive to one another If starting out early in your social work career, you can learn a lot and gain good experience Nice office/great location to work/clean & new hospital Over the past couple years, upper leadership started to listen to CM concerns about workload/dept structure
Cons
Below average standard of pay compared to national average and other Chicago hospitals Annual raises are based on "performance" but usually are never above 1.5% and no bonuses Caseload is above national average and very demanding High stress and burnout Takes immense effort as a department to get upper leadership to hear concerns and enact change Department is not valued like other departments although they are essential part of the inpatient team. CMs don't receive the same level of perks as nurses, therapists, and MDs. No growth opportunities. You will likely stay in the same role doing the same thing for however many years you stay there.
