Pros

Have benefits, now read the Cons so your really know about Sterling Jewellers

Cons

They sale $15 Teddie Bears for Children Cancer and only enter $1 in the Donation System Cell. Only $1 really goes to kids. Poor Salary, Terrible Schedule, Emulation work system, they put all the shops and stores to compete each other, and the Bonus of the manager depends of a margin goal. So be prepare to be treated like a Slave, they will do anything from you to reach their Bonus. Poor Training they don't care about the quality of the job you do, they pretend to care, but when they offer you the Wage, you realise they dont care, if you get hired as an aprentise dont even think you will be able to learn anything because manager it's gonna push you like hell for production, no time for learning!. They don't allow jewelers to have a side project, so basically if they get knowledge of you working by your own or have another jeweler part time, you get fired! at the moment they know. Everytime hollyday's season come they Need you to work all the time because the work load but at the same time they don't want to give you payed overtime, so they fix this by scheduling you at stupids times like : From 11 am to 8pm -no sense- overtime has to be approve it from Top- is not managers call. Is a yearly Margin Goal thing or you don't get Bonus, neither the manager, so the manager don't want to buy tools or suplies., because the manager its gonna try to safe as more money as he can safe. So be prepare to work with poor tools, old broken tools. etc. But if you want to spend the few money they pay you in tools and bring your own tools to the workshop and get your money waisted, they have no problem with that! - NOW! if you say::, ok, I have to buy the Tools with my money so let me buy the tools I need thro the Company's system so I get the discount, then they don't allow you to do that. They hire polishers and pay them pennis so as you can imagine, those polishers like marihuana, are less than 21 years old and come from former employers like Burger King, Wendy's, Mac Donalls, so when you repair a ($7000 or more) piece and give it to them, they just treat the piece like they treat a tomato puting it on the burger... So, there you can see you will have to repair the same Piece over 3 times before the piece get out of the Shop. That is how important is a Customer to Sterling Jewelers, to Signet. Your employer will only care about numbers, production, you are just a number, and actually they will give you a number and that is what you are for them, a number. If you want to work in there and study on the side, nevermind, you will get fired by friendly advise. They give you a Bonus at the end of the year that iquals 3% your anual salary and that is IF only IF you make the 3 anual Goals, you will cry or either laugh when you get to see the poor amount of money in that check... I will stop writting now because I dont think I have the whole night to type. All I've said is only the intro of a 10 chapters book I can write.

Pros

Great place to learn how to become a better jeweler and grow your skills, if you are in an environment that takes full advantage of what the company provides. The benefits are also extremely generous with PTO and depending on the work environment, your schedule can be very flexible. Also being a jeweler means you are in a separate department from the sales side of the company and they have no authority over you, and your job as a jeweler isn't impacted by the sales side, you could be working inside a Jared, but it doesn't matter if the salesperson couldn't make the sale, and the money charged between the Service Center and the store is all just a number for tracking margin, so it's really nice being a jeweler that doesn't need to worry about sales or have a salesperson lord over you. It's very different than a mom and pop jeweler job.

Cons

Depending on the shop/manager your growth can be stagnanted. The company pushes for number of units and that's created a mentality of a focus for lesser quality workmanship to pass through QC. The store side salespeople don't get trained well on their side and will lean on the service center side to do the technical things for them. The sales staff knowledge on jewelry can be next to nothing because it's not a requirement for them, so that adds a lot of friction between jeweler and sales staff.
