Dead end job, rampant favoritism - Project Manager Simons Foundation Employee Review

Pros

The underlying mission of the Simons Foundation is inspiring, and employees can see that few members of the organization really does care about the happiness and well-being of the employees. The facilities and benefits are top notch. The work and pace can be challenging, but there is adequate balance provided to employees.

Cons

Senior management has actually stated that this is not a place for people to grow. Career opportunities are hard to come by.  For an organization that wants to pride itself in promoting basic science and mathematics, management is really averse to making data-driven decisions.  Favoritism runs rampant, with hand-picked individuals in roles. There are a number of intelligent individuals employed by the organization, but unfortunately not many actually have management skills. There is a distinct lack of management, structure and oversight to promote working more efficiently. Informatics has no clear vision; and bad management led to staff leaving, or requesting to transfer to another team. The informatics team is a cesspool filled with handpicked individuals not qualified to actually manage.

Pros

Great location with lots of benefits. Great staff and working environment.

Cons

Not too many cons, I guess the pay isn't a lot but it's good for it being a nonprofit, and they make up for it with the amount of benefits we receive.

Pros

Supportive environment. I especially appreciate the foundation’s focus on collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and long-term investment in ambitious ideas.

Cons

Can make the decision process even more transparent.
