Pros

Unique corporate culture focused on fun and personal connections in the local office. Good client list. Still able to find decent talent after exhausting most consultants' local networks. National team is still able to visit local offices regularly to stay in touch. Still good at implementing feedback from consultant surveys.

Cons

Offices have become rife with in efficiency over the years. Underperforming consultants can fly under the radar and don't get "counseled out" early enough putting pressure on their team and account management to cover for them. ELT is severely dysfunctional and it is apparent throughout the org. SLT have been stripped of most power and doesn't make decisions although they are running the business. CSLs and PALs do 90% of the leadership work but are paid badly, underappreciated and given no career guidance to get to the next level. To get promoted you have to pick the right MD and ride their coattails to the top. Expecting your performance to be decider of promotion is a myth: it is now purely a political game. And if one MD harbors a grudge against a consultant, it will severely impact their growth at the company. Sadly, this company made its mint by hiring big 4 consultants and thinking they would be different because of the local model but they have just become a big 4 firm that focuses on financials before people. The company grew too fast and gave up its soul in the process.

This is John Tobin. If you would like to provide me more information, simply email me at johnt@slalom.com to set up a time to discuss - since you were here for over 5 years, I probably know you and would love a conversation.. I will share this post with Atlanta leadership. The last thing I will say is that I still see our culture alive and well across the company - and I believe you can always fight to make sure our core values and culture remain strong. I hope you reach out to me.

Pros

people are very kind and its a great network to then have for life

Cons

I had 5 managers in 4 years, 3 of which promised me a promotion which I never got I was strung along in a seperate global team for a year and a half and then when I finally was moved to that group they fired 80% of us it's now an up or out company and people are leaving faster than business is coming in, that's been happening for 2 yrs my mental health was so bad i had two burnouts in a single year my last manager emotionally abused me and made me feel like i was a terrible person. I left believing that was why I was fired until i chatted with another former employee of this manager work life balance WAS a thing and in the last two years it's now that consultants are also responsible for selling, travel is a non-negotiable but expectations for travel are not transparent and can impact your yearly review, straight up not enough work and then senior management will make you feel bad for it
