Unfortunately, I found that the company's principles were just lip service. Like many companies, Sonder hit a major obstacle in COVID-19 and faced some tough decisions. Some companies rise to the challenge and come out stronger than ever, doing what's right for the business, but also for the family they've created. Sonder chose to let go over 1/4 of the entire staff in a heartless and cold manner, leaving many out to dry with little support, no healthcare, or even a word of goodbye or thanks from our "fearless leader". How can a company that prides itself on its culture hope to recover when the remaining employees have no clue as to why they were left standing (with a 15% pay cut) and others on their team were kicked to the curb? Without clear and transparent communication, there is not trust and, ultimately, no culture. I truly loved my time at Sonder and cherished those that I worked with, but worry about my colleagues I'm leaving behind. Sonder's leadership team is lost and acting out to save face and they let their employees take the fall.
