Pros

Free snacks daily and Forkable lunch 4x a week when the office was open. $50 weekly stipend for groceries once quarantine started

Cons

This is truly the most dysfunctional and disorganized company that I have ever worked for in my entire career. Managers frequently leave OKR planning up to their direct reports even when the reports have only been at the company for a few weeks. These OKRs often aren't finalized until several weeks into the corresponding quarter, and even then, they can change abruptly to satisfy the whimsy of upper management. Company-wide goals change constantly with little to no warning. It feels like projects and large scale initiatives never get completed at Sonder. There are endless docs being generated and countless meetings being scheduled, but people still fail to actually execute once this is all said and done. If you ask your coworkers to set realistic deadlines and project plans for completion, they tell you that you're being pushy and the final work never materializes. A few reviews prior to this mentioned that Sonder has a supportive HR Team. What team? There wasn't a Head of People Ops when I started, and there wasn't when I left. There is no HR for you to go to if you're experiencing difficulty in the workplace. None. Finally, if you want to understand how bad things are internally, just look at the tenure of most employees. Even barring the recent COVID layoffs, dozens of employees are still leaving voluntarily before they hit their one year mark. I can think of several employees who only made it to 3 months and then promptly quit because they couldn't take it anymore.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. Establishing quarterly objectives and key results (OKRs) is an important part of how we prioritize efforts within each team and across the business too. It’s critical that this process is clear, effective and measurable, and that OKRs are committed to so that we can continue to build a world-class hospitality experience for our partners and guests. While it feels like we’re missing some context here, what we can derive from the details you shared is that this wasn’t the experience you had; we have an opportunity to improve. As for the size of our HR Partnering team, we have three colleagues in London, one in Denver, one in Montreal and one in Chicago who are all available to provide guidance and support to employees at every level. Our broader People Operations team of ~15 people, which is spread out across the U.S., is also here to help! If you have additional feedback to share, please reach out to peoplepartners@sonder.com and we’ll set some time to connect.

Culture was great. We had a lot of fun building something that could have gone to the moon. Best employer I ever had until we closed our doors.

Cons

It's closed now. Unfortunately had to happen very abruptly,
