Pros

The benefits package is pretty good and really enjoyed the C-suite trying to foster a positive culture.

Cons

Unfortunately, I only stuck around for about a year. Sure, the pay wasn't all that great, the workload is just plain ridiculous, outrageous rate of turnover but what ultimately drove me away from Sovos is my reporting manager. This person had no idea on how to lead a team and just destroyed the Agile process into a ultra micro-management session. I honestly felt this person was not qualified for this role and just used me as a scapegoat to shield themselves from certain tasks. For a large company, my reporting manager made me feel alone and isolated the majority of my time at Sovos. He/She would chant his/her open door policy but I always felt ridiculed during our 1-on-1's and in front of my colleagues during our team calls. Sometimes I would be given direction from the reporting manager and then that same person would turn around to claim they never instructed me to do so. I couldn't decipher if my reporting manager was just trying to make it unpleasant for me, deliberately gaslighting and/or just unfit for the role. This happened to me on several occasions which just lead me to look for another opportunity elsewhere.

Thank you for your well thought out feedback. I am glad that that you were able to see how important a positive culture is to us here. If you ever attended any of our All Hands meetings, or have heard our CEO Andy talk on the subject, you will know that having an inclusive environment where our teams can safely bring their whole selves to work is of the utmost importance to us and that that belief really does come from the very top down. Which is why reading about your experience with your direct manager is so challenging. We never want anyone to feel alone or isolated during their time here. We know how critical it is to have supportive and effective managers, both for the individuals that report into them and for the success of the company as a whole. Our managers should (of course) be good at their jobs but, more importantly, serve as mentors and coaches to the employees that interact with them. It is because of this that we have implemented programs like our manager bootcamps for newly hired and newly promoted leaders, to give them the tools that they need to be successful leaders. I am sorry that you did not know the options for providing feedback and where to go to be heard. We always want employees to have a place where they can share feedback in a comfortable way. We encourage employees to talk to HR or their Senior Leader in cases similar to yours, and for those who may not feel comfortable doing that, we do have ways of reporting anonymously as well. Nobody at Sovos should ever fear retaliation for speaking out about something that they feel is unfair. I am sorry that you had the experience that you did. If you still want to reach out, I would be more than happy to connect. I wish you the best of luck as you move forward in your career.

Thank you for sharing this, and welcome to the team! It's wonderful to hear that your recruiting experience set such a positive tone from the start. Cassie is a great example of the kind of Sovosians we are proud to have representing our culture, and knowing she made you feel informed and at ease throughout the process genuinely matters to us. We also love hearing that your first day onboarding helped you connect with our values and get a feel for what we do. That experience is something we work hard to get right, and your feedback confirms it's landing the way we intend. We're glad you're here, and we look forward to growing together. Pros

Being Remote and standard benefits

Cons

Sales leadership is horrendous. New people are brought in not trained, aggressive targets (that have never been hit) usually designed to be the escape goats to protect the old guard. Long tenured sales protects the existing power structures. When results slip, they blame newer reps. New hires don’t hit, quotas unrealistic, weak implementation. Nightmare of a company, the worst I have ever worked at.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. Feedback matters, even when we see things differently. Quota-setting and new hire ramp structures are areas we invest in seriously - they're because we want our sellers to win, not to set anyone up to fail. That's the culture we've built, and it's one I'm proud of. That said, I do hear that your experience hasn't matched that intent. If there are specific gaps in how you were onboarded or supported, I'd genuinely like to understand them so we can keep getting better. Please connect with HR or reach out to me directly. We're committed to building a team where every rep has a real shot at success! Alice Katwan, President of Revenue, Sovos
