Pros
Sports basement really does care about their employees, there is a break room stocked with food and when the pandemic hit they paid salaries of the employee out of their own pocket for part of the lock down. Their philosophy as an employer is something every single business should strive for, they cared for their employees and the customers equally and profits were secondary to the humans responsible for generating that money. A truly inspiring place to work. A lot of fantastic perks, not just the employee discount but they offer discount to employees for trips like river rafting and Tahoe skiing as well as discounts or free entry altogether to marathons and athletic endeavors like that. I cannot say enough about the discounts.
Cons
a little unorganized and discombobulated. rentals was at times frustrating because there was sometimes a lack of leadership. Because of this, there were lots of opportunities for fellow employees to duck out of the undesirable tasks which set up a hierarchy among co-workers that should be equal. no reward for working hard as a lot of recognition was based on whether or not someone from the public wrote a review on yelp or google. It was hard for good work to be recognized, which fed into a negative feedback loop that didn't encourage employees to do the hard work that was not customer facing. Departments were clique-y and there was not a lot of cross over and at times there seemed to be a ting of animosity. But maybe the pandemic has changed that.
