Pros
It’s in Bend and staff a generally treated and compensated well thanks to a strong union. During the early parts of the COVID pandemic they did a lot to make sure their employees were looked after both mentally and financially.
Cons
They are the only hospital system within a couple hours drive. That lack of competition breeds complacency from the administration, management, and employees in varying amounts, and for different reasons. It can make you fearful of calling the system out when things aren’t being done correctly. It also makes you fearful of stepping up into education and management roles because they do not have union representation. Non-represented employee have a short lifespan in the system. You also don’t get the impression that the hospital is willingly taking care of its employees. If it weren’t for a strong union I shudder to think what it would be like.
