Pros
Great benefits & hourly pay compared to other food service jobs, free pound of coffee beans each week, free drink and meal on shift, free Spotify premium, discount on merch if you collect it. I worked during COVID and at the time in my personal opinion, I felt greatly supported by Starbucks who allowed me to choose whether to work or stay home based on my personal needs and concerns. Starbucks seemed in my opinion to take COVID more seriously than other retail jobs in my area.
Cons
Company is fiercely opposed to unions and with the ongoing nationwide union drive, Starbucks' pushback against the union has dramatically increased the stress of the working environment. Stores that have voted to unionize have not been able to secure a contract so there is still no resolution to this concern. Meanwhile, there are serious issues with Starbucks' integration of alternate ordering options: whereas ordering through the drive-thru or in café is naturally prevented from occurring too quickly to manage, ordering through mobile or DoorDash currently has no restrictions or hold times for when the store is too busy to take additional orders. Mobile and DoorDash orders can be turned off with upper management approve but most managers do not want to give approval even when understaffed, so it would make much more sense to limit mobile orders so that customers must check in once they arrive before it submits their order to the barista's prep cue and charges their card.
