Pros

Decent pay, decent benefits. If you get on a good team you'll enjoy your job... at least for a little while.

Cons

TONS of political in-fighting. In my position I worked across every department in the company and things moved sooooooooo slow due to an excessive amount of politics. Seriously, issues from 10 years ago were still given as reasons to not work with a person. The average tenure is also 20+ years and it shows. People are comfortable doing things like they did in 1990 and it will take you years to get a reputation before you're taken seriously or considered worthy of a manager's/executive's time. Being the #1 insurer for 50+ years has also given way to a defiant hubris which will eventually crush the company if it's not resolved. One great example is the rampant turnover they're experiencing now. They recently opened 3 hub locations in Dallas, Atlanta, and Phoenix (because no one wants to live in Bloomington, the HQ) and its uncovered severe issues in company culture. Previously all offices had been in small towns across the US where competition for talent was non-existent, but now people can leave for better jobs across the street and HR and managers are dumbfounded. Sorry I'm not sorry - I left because of you. If you need a job to pad your resume, it's the perfect place. Otherwise don't waste your time.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
