It seemed every year the company rolled something out new that made my job worse. - Senior Claims Specialist State Farm Employee Review

Pros

I did a pros and cons list to determine this prior to me leaving the company. The absolute top of the pros are 1) co-workers 2) Money. I did have a company car and fleet car, but that is not a typical benefit.

Cons

The absolute worst thing about the new State Farm is the micromanagement in every which way. I won't go on a rant about this, but I will say employees are more watched than when I was in the Army. I had three time cards to fill out...three! A work/life balance is non-existent and you will relive your day just as the movie Ground Hog Day. There will be meetings every day about how many mintues it took you the following day to do a task. Worst of all, you will not be appreciated or felt valued. To work in claims you must accept you cannot take off when you want, you will be micromanaged to the point of insanity, the workload is overwhelming and you will be putting in OT, your entire day is preplanned by the company and you are most definitely expendable.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
