Pros

Fairly stable job with good benefits. Working in the auto injury and lititgation side from home is nice, but only if you know what youre doing and are not a new hire. Then it can be hard. Management is good but they are under a lot of under pressure to keep up with the volume as well. Ability to flex time is great.

Cons

One day, three day and five day deadlines to complete work are rough and create so much pressure which can lead to poor quality work and some cutting of corners to do what is fast, rather than what is right. This company is so bent on tracking number of tasks and speed but quality is harder to track. Not everyone can work at the same pace so just because a few superstars can keep up, the majority cannot. There are so many unecessary steps and documentation and procedures. This job takes years to learn. Over the last 6 years I have watched so many good experienced claim handlers and team managers retire or quit to escape the overwheling volume and pressure to keep up with artificial service level objective deadlines. Its an endless and miserable grind. If you have even a hint of ADD, anxiety, or are not super organized with a photographic memory, you will struggle. Everything is metrics driven. Many new hires are overwhelmed and will bail after a year or so, as soon as a better opportunity comes along. Its such a hard job to learn while isolated at home. All the older more experienced handlers probably have countdown clocks set for the day hour and minute they can retire. Training is poor which contributes to high new hire turnover. After training they are expected to start handling a quickly growing inventory. Peers do not have the time to train the new folks as they can barely keep up with their own work. Some states are so short staffed they take away a few of our people to go help out .This is quite alarming to think there are states that are in even worse shape. When people leave, it causes claim loads to be redistributed. If you worked hard to lower your claim count and management needs to reassign excess files, you get dumped on. Things from an employee perspective only seem to have gotten worse over the last 6 years . The only salvation is either retirement or the grave because when you've been here long enough it becomes difficult to replace your salary or vacation time, by starting out with any other insurance carrier. Many experienced and knowledgeable handlers who can retire will do so as soon as financially possible. In the next few years auto claims could be left with constant turnover from newer overwhelmed under trained, inexperieced employees doing the bare min to keep up as best they can. Claim handling errors or mis steps could lead to costly verdicts. Lastly, the stingey, miserly attitude from upper level management on desperatly needed overtime is just insult to injury especially when many folks are pushing claim inventories of 300 files . How is this manageable?

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
