Pros
Benefits, and team structure (if you have a good team). Honestly, the customers are what make the days worth it. If you can empathize, communicate, and de-escalate, then all is in your favor. State Farm truly gave me the opportunity to go professionally. That being said, the cons are unfortunately what makes this not a sustainable career in this area
Cons
Where to begin. Initially I was promoted from a CA, to a CS. The old “team” environment, allowed us to work claims as a whole department, versus individually. At the time (for me at least), this was effective and sustainable, as long as you were comfortable with taking more calls and jumping into random claims. However, eventually this was changed to stewardship. Which at first was promising, but this lead to our individual queues to become backed up. Basically if you finished one claim, you would still have 10+ or more to manage because they come in at a high rate. You are also responsible for covering others queue when they are out of office, so if you were caught up in your space you would likely get behind because now you have to handle your teammates work load….Lastly, the metric system does not make any sense. Some of the numbers are realistic and attainable, but the majority are designed to focus on quantity versus quality….It’s quite the bummer to be writing this because at one point I had a positive perspective with the company, but once the system became designed for what’s best for business and not the individual employee, then I knew it was my time. Overall the current system in place leads to burnout, which is driving away employees who are intelligent and hardworking.
