Pros

They have an ok tutoring system in place.

Cons

The starting wage of $20 per hour is incredibly misleading. You are expected to pay for your own gas and travel expenses. You are also expected to spend a lot of time preparing for each lesson, (1-2 hours when you are first starting out, less once you get the hang of it). You will also spend a lot of time talking to the manager on the phone and by email and talking to parent's on the phone and by email. None of the extra work that you must do is paid. So, yes, you will make $40 for a 2 hour SAT or ACT lesson, however, you will spend about $5-$10 on gas and wear and tear on your car depending on how far you have to travel to your lesson. Additionally, you will spend approximately 1-3 hours of unpaid time preparing for your lesson, traveling, and corresponding with your manager and your student. The end result will equal about $10.00- $5.00 per hour when all is said and done. StudyPoint charges their clients exorbitant prices and only pays their tutors pennies on the dollar. I was shocked when I found out how much StudyPoint was raking in for my tutoring service. Approximately $150 per hour! Furthermore, StudyPoint changed their raise policy 2 times while I was working for them which resulted in me not receiving 2 of the raises that should have earned. When I got my first raise, I thought "wow this is great! a 50 cent raise after working 50 hours." The other 2 never came and I realized that I was being severely taken advantage of. For anyone looking for a part-time job, economically, you would be much better off taking a minimum wage job in fast food. However, if you are just doing it for fun and if you don't care about making any money, StudyPoint is an ok company to work for.

Pros

Super-helpful and friendly staff. Every tutor has a manager/mentor. So, you know who to contact with any performance questions, or reviews

Cons

I was looking for a lot more students/hours per week than they were able to get for me. They do not have access to as many subjects (esp. college level) as some of the other online platforms. Focus is primarily high-school and placement test prep.

Pros

Flexible schedule. Love working my students.

Cons

Not compensated for work you’re required to do outside of sessions with students. Pay does not reflect your value to the company. When I left, I was in the top tier tutors. They billed me out to families at over 10 times the amount of my hourly pay. Despite my performance and refused from parents and student, my pay only went up maybe 2% per year after they changed from the more incentive -based pay structure. No support from corporate office and no opportunity for advancement.

Thank you for your feedback. We certainly want our tutors to feel valued and to enjoy their experience working with StudyPoint, so I’m sorry to hear you had these frustrations with the organization. Feedback like yours will be very helpful as we look to restructure our tutor compensation and evaluation/raise process. Regarding support for tutors, all tutors have access to our Tutor Resource library, a veteran tutor mentor, and their program manager. This past year we also hired a tutor manager whose role is specifically to provide ongoing support, training, and guidance to our team of tutors. It is our hope that, collectively, these resources provide tutors with a solid support system as they work with students. Regarding opportunities for advancement, we offer many of our tutors opportunities to work in other areas of the business, including mentoring other tutors, interviewing tutor candidates during the hiring process, conducting role plays during the training process, and developing curriculum materials. Additionally, several of our full-time staff members started with StudyPoint as tutors. That being said, there is always room for improvement, and we thank you for this feedback.
